Dexter’s Sixth Season got off to a relatively promising start last night, quelling my fears (for now) that the subpar (and pointless) ‘Lumen’ Season was a sign that things be downhill from here on out. With new showrunner Scott Buck calling the shots, the series left fans optimistic as “Those Kinds of Things” provided that signature blend of excitement, intrigue and levity that has, in the past, made the show the series to watch as Fall turns the leaves orange.

Watch Dexter Season 6 Episode 2

If you haven’t guessed, Season 6 will be all about Dexter’s quest for spiritual enlightenment, rather his curiosity to ask questions he’s yet to consider in his life. The new freak show in town will guide him down that path: two cultish zealots Professor Gellar (Edward James Olmos and Travis Marshall (Colin Hanks).

From the looks of the below clip made available by Showtime, Dexter Season 6 Episode 2 looks to explore the dynamic of these killers, who, in the premiere, proceeded to gut a victim, put his intestines on display and then replace them with seven snakes. In this clip, Gellar calls the actions of Travis’ sister into question scolds his protégé. However, to punish him, he sears himself with a hot iron rod in an attempt to liken himself to Jesus, the one who died on the cross for the sins of man. I’ve got to say, as far as strange and unusual characters, these two may take the cake when it comes to the series, more so than the Ice Truck Killer or even the Trinity Killer. Hopefully, watching the narrative peel back the layers and explore their motivations will be just as exciting as it was for both of those aforementioned killers in Seasons 1 and 4.

The faith theme will also recur as we are introduced Brother Sam (Mos), a minister with a criminal background that Dexter believes is a killer. And it may turn out that his is a killer according to this preview clip below. But you can expect Dexter to be intrigued by Brother Sam and try to figure out what makes him belief what he believes, despite the fact that he was one a criminal.
